Nuremberg S-Bahn Contract - National Express confirmed as operator
Commenting on yesterday's decision by the local authority to confirm the award of the Nuremberg S-Bahn contract to National Express, a spokesperson said:
"We are delighted with the decision. We look forward to providing the people of Nuremberg with a high quality service in the coming years and are pleased to be able to now focus on putting our plans into practice. We have now secured €4 billion of revenues in German rail and have a further €4 billion in our active pipeline of future bids."
The decision comes after Sunday's successful launch of National Express' first German services - two contracts to run services on the Rhine Munster Express lines.
In addition, National Express is experiencing positive trading in the run-up to Christmas with three businesses, UK Coach, c2c and ALSA all recording record pre-Christmas passenger demand.
Notes to Editors
Yesterday's confirmation was made by the Bavarian public transport authority, BEG: Bayerische Eisenbahn Gesellschaft.
It follows an appeal against the awarding process by Deutsche Bahn, the incumbent operator.
The Nuremberg rail service is expected to commence in December 2018 and will run for 12 years.
This service carries approximately 16 million passengers a year, 80% of which are commuters.
National Express Group PLC ("National Express") is a leading international public transport group, operating bus, coach, rail and tram services across the UK, continental Europe, North Africa, North America and Bahrain.
