Intercede join the FIDO Alliance

Intercede has now joined the Faster Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance as the company extends its MyID software platform to manage FIDO as well as PKI based strong authentication.

FIDO is an open industry association with a sole focus on setting a universal standard for authentication.

Supported natively across browsers, Windows 10 and Android platforms, FIDO authentication enables end users to authenticate via fingerprint, facial recognition, voice and security key.

Backed by the likes of Amazon, Apple and Google, FIDO provides a simple method of authentication for users to securely access their online accounts.

Simple to deploy, FIDO offers strong authentication based on secure public/private key technology. Enterprises looking to take advantage of the strong authentication FIDO provides may still need assistance maintaining strict control over exactly who is accessing multiple systems and resources. Intercede plan to address this need with the release of a new version of MyID.

"We have followed FIDO with great interest for some time. Their purpose very much fits with ours at Intercede and we are looking forward to providing expertise on how to optimise FIDO for the enterprise," said Allen Storey, Chief Product Officer at Intercede.

Storey adds: "We plan to provide a solution to combine the standards-based benefits of FIDO with the manageability that enterprises demand.

"Our next version of MyID will provide fully compliant FIDO authentication services, combined with the issuance, policy and lifecycle management capabilities of the MyID platform. Functionality that will provide IT teams the software they need to issue, replace, and revoke FIDO credentials for employees and suppliers."

Adding management to FIDO alongside PKI based credentials, Intercede see the core benefit being for enterprises who wish to add FIDO as an option to secure employee authentication to networks and resources, whether as a standalone authentication solution or in combination with PKI.

"Our customers are looking to use a flexible range of strong authentication technologies that best fit the needs of particular devices, systems and groups of users.  PKI, smart cards, virtual smart cards, mobile devices and FIDO all have a place to play and with MyID they can all be managed from a single point, enabling organisations to mix and match authentication technologies as best fits their needs, while maintaining Enterprise level control over access credentials.

"We are excited to welcome our newest associate member, Intercede," said Andrew Shikiar, executive director and CMO of the FIDO Alliance. "The FIDO vision of universal strong authentication promises better security, enhanced privacy, more commerce and expansion of services throughout digital industries. Intercede's addition to our Alliance supports our industry goal to make user authentication easier and safer for all parties."
