Government Grant to Develop New Space Antenna

MTI Wireless Edge Ltd (AIM: MWE), the technology group focused on comprehensive communication and radio frequency solutions across multiple sectors, is pleased to announce that, MTI's Antenna Division has been selected to partner with US engineering and technology firm, Craig Technologies and its subsidiary Sidus Space, to develop a new range of space antenna as part of a  funded project.

Space Florida entered into an innovative bi-lateral partnership with the Israel Innovation Authority to support joint aerospace research & development projects. Known as the Florida Israel innovation partnership, it requires companies from both countries to participate in every project that is funded. For this project, MTI will receive a grant of US$125,000 to support the development of the new space antenna.

The project has been established to develop an innovative new antenna that can be used for space-ground and space-space applications. MTI expects to customize an existing antenna to the required satellite communication frequency band and mechanically redesign this to meet the space environmental requirements. Testing of the new solution will be performed in subsequent phases using Craig's on-orbit technology demonstration satellites to demonstrate Technology Readiness Level 9.  This joint effort assumes MTI will be responsible for the development and manufacturing and Craig Technologies for the marketing of the new technology to commercial companies.

Carol Craig, founder and CEO of Craig Technologies (Merritt Island, Florida) said: "We are naturally delighted to be part of this project alongside MTI. As a leading small business in commercial space engineering, our focus is on developing and launching mission-critical systems and we are looking forward to bringing our expertise of developing systems capable of functioning reliably in space together with MTI's undoubted leadership in the field of antenna communications."

MTI's CEO, Moni Borovitz, commented: "This will be our first space project and potentially the start of a whole new side to our business. We are excited and proud to have been selected alongside such a prestigious partner. Florida is the home of space development globally and Craig Technologies is a leader in its field. We look forward to combining our expertise with theirs to bring to market a truly innovative range of new flat antenna for use in space."
