New Director General for the Takeover Panel

NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL FOR THE TAKEOVER PANEL

Omar Faruqui, Co-head of Europe, Middle East and Africa Mergers and Acquisitions at Barclays, is to be the next Director General of the Takeover Panel.

Omar will take up his appointment on 1 May 2024. He will be on a two year secondment from Barclays.

Omar Faruqui, 48, is currently Co-head of EMEA M&A and Co-head of UK Advisory at Barclays, and a member of the EMEA Investment Banking management team.  He has acted for clients across a wide range of sectors, advising on hostile and recommended takeovers, bid defences, mergers and private company transactions.

Omar started his career in investment banking in 1996. Prior to joining Barclays in 2018, he held advisory roles at Rothschild, Deutsche Bank and HSBC.  With over 25 years of industry experience, he is one of Barclays' most experienced advisory practitioners.
