Statnett SF - Publication of congestion revenues on a regular basis
In November 2021 Statnett informed that calculated congestion revenues will be published regularly on Statnett's website. This will now come into effect on a monthly basis, with publication on the 10th of each following month. The first publication will be on 10th February 2022 on Statnett's website.
The Nordic power market is divided into bidding zones. Congestion revenues derive from power being transferred between two countries or between bidding zones internally in Norway. Congestion revenues that originate from power exchange between different countries are divided 50/50 between Statnett and our partner in the neighboring country, while congestion revenues from the Norwegian internal transmission grid goes to Statnett in its entirety. Norway has five bidding zones; Sweden has four while Denmark has two. The power price in each bidding zone is determined daily by the power exchange (NordPool) for each hour of the day based on supply and demand.
Statnetts income is regulated through a revenue cap. The congestion revenues are passed on to Statnett's customers through a reduction in grid tariffs.
