As the UK transitions to Net Zero, we continue to build out renewable electricity generating capacity, which in the UK mainly comes from wind. When the UK’s electricity grid is at capacity, the renewable wind generators are paid to shut down, as we currently don’t have effective storage. By the Government’s own estimates this will waste an estimated £8 billion by 2030, which gets added to industrial and residential energy bills. To address this urgent need, AIM-listed Energy Pathways (LON:EPP) is developing the Marram Energy Storage Hub for Long Duration Energy Storage in the Irish Sea. MESH will provide two linked storage solutions: compressed air and hydrogen to gas storage to harness excess electricity supply, and gas cavern storage to provide gas when there is a shortage. MESH, the UK’s largest and scalable modular system, is strategically positioned near Barrow in Furness, Cambria, where renewables production is concentrated.
